History
My interest in the Funeral Industry commenced in the early 1980’s. It was during this time I met a Funeral Director based in Currabubula, NSW. Over a period of 12 months, I gained experience in the business working on weekends and school holidays.
In late 1983, after the Funeral Director had relocated interstate, I approached a Tamworth Funeral Director seeking work while at high school. I was offered full time employment with that funeral business in 1984 and worked there until the business was sold to Keith Russell’s Simplicity Funerals in 1986.
Later that year after choir practice in St. Patricks Catholic Church, West Tamworth for the Golden Jubilee for the now Late Monsignor John O’Connor, I was approached by the now late Mrs. Shirley Burke enquiring if I would be interested in establishing a Funeral Business with herself and husband Mr. Hal Burke. Burke and Hamilton Funerals was then formed in late 1986.
As time progressed, we welcomed another partner into the fold and established the Burke, Hamilton and Douglas partnership. We operated Burke & Hamilton Funerals, Bevan Douglas Funerals and Simplicity Park (Lincoln Grove Memorial Gardens and Crematorium), which we purchased from the Service Corporation International who purchased Keith Russell’s Simplicity Funerals assets Australia wide in the late 1980’s.
During December 1995 I decided to leave the partnership and relocate to Sydney, working for several large funeral companies, some locally owned and others owned by large American corporations.
In the year 2000 I went into business with the Flannagan Brothers, where we founded Hamilton Funerals, located at Wahroonga and Brookvale. This business continued late into 2007 at which time I decided to relocate back to Quirindi and be close to my family. It was there I planned to establish a small Funeral Business as the sole owner/operator, Shaun Hamilton Funerals.
As Shaun Hamilton Funerals grew it became necessary to relocate to larger premises. I kept the Quirindi Office at 214 George Street and moved into more suitable premises at 125 Marius Street, Tamworth. This address is now our Head Office, Funeral Home and Mortuary Facility.
In 2023 my staff and I are very grateful that Shaun Hamilton Funerals is now the preferred Funeral Care Provider in our region and hope that we may continue to serve for many years to come.
